The RIS portal is started as a pilot and the sucessor (FIS) will eventually grow to the information portal for inland shipping in the Netherlands. The Pilot phase will be continued until the FIS is operational. Afther this time the portal will have a definate status through FIS. The input/comments who will be gathered during the pilot phase shall be used for the definate service to be as closely connected to the wishes of the users. Comments could be send to bureau.telematica@binnenvaart.org or go to ‘contact' on this site.

The purpose of the RIS portal is for providing common and journey specified information, as mentioned in the list below, made accesable through wide- and small band communication means where re-use of allready build information sources will be used as much as possible.

The RIS portal is specific designed for use on ships:

  • less data, hereby faster information and lower costs;
  • one portal, even for foreign information;
  • graphical and text information;
  • operator times and other information about the fairway (VIN);
  • digital fairway maps (ENC's);
  • messages to skippers, national as well as international;
  • pictures of locks, bridges and trafic centres;
  • Simple menu structure.

The next information will be available soon on the RIS Portal:

  • weather;
  • waterlevels;
  • up-to-date depts;
  • smart filtering (for instance message type, region and/or fair schedule);
  • better support for multilangual.

Due to EU regulations the following data won't be accessable without verification of the requester:

  • up-to-date hull information from Inspectorate V&W;

Next to this the goal is for enhance the processes for inland skipping by supplying of position data or fair schedule of your own ship at interested parties, for instance a skipping agency for the logistic planning or at a lock keeper for his lock planning.
